Case Study: Transforming the Nissan Showroom in Doncaster
Completed December 2023
Project Overview
In Doncaster, a significant transformation took place at the former Cazoo Garage on Wheatleyhall Road. This location is now home to a new 3,000m² Nissan showroom, a project that required extensive planning and execution – including levelling a challenging floor before tiling could comment. The successful completion of the showroom was attributed to the use of BAL products – particularly BAL Level Max – which played a pivotal role in achieving a high-quality finish throughout the showroom.
The Challenge
The task of tiling the new showroom was assigned to Phil Reed Ceramics, a team known for their expertise in ceramic installations. However, they faced a considerable challenge due to the extensive pre-preparation required before tiling could commence. The former adhesive had to be removed, a task complicated by the previous demolition team’s choice to use a bobcat with a scarifier. This method left the floor in a state that demanded meticulous levelling and preparation.
Solution Implementation
To tackle this challenge, Phil Reed’s team utilized BAL Level Max, a self-smoothing and fast-setting compound ideal for heavy-duty applications that can go from 3mm to 80mm in a single application and can be tiled on in 4 hours at any depth. Over the course of the project, a total of twelve pallets, which equates to 600 bags, were used to ensure the floor was perfectly level and ready for tiling.
Once the floor was prepared, the team proceeded with the installation of large format floor tiles using BAL XL Floor One. This innovative, pourable floor tile adhesive was chosen for its extended open and working times, allowing the team to work efficiently and effectively under tight deadlines.
Project Outcome
Despite the initial challenges, the project was successfully completed within a two-week timeframe. The expert application of BAL products ensured a durable and aesthetically pleasing finish that met the high standards required for the new Nissan showroom.
Phil Reed reflected on the project, stating, “The New Nissan car showroom completed in Doncaster this week at the former Cazoo Garage on Wheatleyhall Road was a real challenge to get this turned around in 2 weeks due to the prep required. After 12 pallets of BAL Level Max, we got there! Tiling was completed with BAL XL Floor One.”
Conclusion
This case study highlights the importance of choosing the right materials and having a skilled team to overcome on-site challenges. The use of BAL products was instrumental in transforming the former Cazoo Garage into a sleek and modern Nissan showroom, demonstrating their effectiveness and reliability in demanding construction environments.
